"The Milk of Human Kindness"
So, I woke from a few hours' sleep about 2:00 am, shook the ghosts and 'things that go bump in the night' from my fertile (but covered over) brain, grabbed my bead-bag and started chanting "Hare Krsna Hare Krsna Krsna Krsna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare"!!
And so it goes...one wonders what great medicine is obtained in this maha-mantra ('maha' means "great" and 'mantra' means, "that which delivers the mind") otherwise why would sages and saints be chanting it in the Himalayas for the last thousands of years. Actually, 'Hare Krsna' also so means, 'the great chanting for deliverance.'
You may (or may not) have heard the song, 'My Sweet Lord,' by George Harrison late of Beatles fame. This song is perhaps the greatest mood-setter of all, whether one wants life or death, it is all there in the mantra.
Sri Krsna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He is the supreme authority...by chanting this mantra, the rains will come on time; the seasons will revolve as they are meant to; humantiy may just find peace in the next thousnads of years. Actually, Srila Prabhupada (A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami) has predicted that the books he has wwritten will be the law books for the next five thousand years. The Caitanya cult is admitted to have the potential for being bhagavat dharma, the religion for this age of Kali-yuga. Obviously, the Christians have done nothing for the cause of peace, just witness the terrible conditions we have herre on planet earth: Tsunamis, earthquakes; war and more war; diseases and all the rest...every other week there is a new report about yet another mass-murderer going bonkers in the market places of America, the entire "going postal' syndrome of utter caos and destruction in this, what could be a beautiful planet, for Jesus walked on this planet (although he walked in transcendence) Buddha walked this earth and so did Krishnacaitanya, the full-fledged incarnation of Krsna who appeared some 500 years ago to show how a devotee acts in the presense of the Lord. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu was Krsna Himself appearing as His own devotee. Lord Caitanya taught the yuga dharma which is simply, chanting this great mantra.
Srila Prabhupada came to the shores of America alone, at the advanced age of 70 years, voyaging on a cargo steamer, the Jaladuta. He traveled alone yet he was never alone becasue he had Radha Krsna dwelling within his heart. Srila Prabhupada may have appeared to be alone, yet the entire parampara, the disciplic succession which goes back to krsna 5,000 years ago and actually, millions of years even before that.
